What is a FIDO key?
Simply put, a FIDO security key is a USB device that acts as a "key" to authenticate to devices. Some people find this more convenient that using their badge or a cell phone. Instead of being prompted to scan a badge or type in an OTP code from a cell phone, the user can be prompted to insert their FIDO key and optionally type a PIN number. These devices are relatively inexpensive ($20-50) and work with a variety of devices. The most common FIDO key is the Yubico Security Key, which looks like this:
While these devices might not be supplied by the district, you have the option of purchasing one of these yourself and enrolling it for use with our system. The following two devices have been tested to work with our systems:
How do I setup my FIDO key?
This guide assumes you are using one of the two products listed above. Using other products should be allowed, however some of the terminology and prompts may differ.
Enrolling your FIDO key
Step 1.) First, on your computer, open the HID DigitalPersona AD Console application.
Step 2.) When the DigitalPersona Console opens, select Credential Manager.
Step 3.) In the Credential Manager, select FIDO Key
Step 4.) If prompted, authenticate using your password or ID badge.
Step 5.) Next, you will see the FIDO Key setup screen. Click Enroll
Step 7.) You will be prompted to insert your security key and tap the button on it.
Step 8.) Once the key is detected, you will have to set a PIN number
Step 9.) Once the PIN number is verified, you will be prompted to tap the button on the security key
Step 10.) The security key is now enrolled! You can verify this by viewing the Credential Manager, and verifying the FIDO Key option says Change, not Add
