Logging in with MFA

Once you are enrolled in MFA, using your new authentication factors is simple. 


The most important part of the login in process is selecting your sign-in option. Below the prompt on the login screen, click the link titled Sign-in options. 


A row of sign-in options will appear. (You may see more or less options). 


Each of these options provide a different function. 

Icon Name Description
Password Your password to login to Windows
Contactless Writable/Contactless ID Card Your personal badge or key fob
  One-time passcode (OTP) An optional method of using your cell phone to login to Windows by using an authenticator app. Click here for more information. 
  One-time access code A recovery method used to login when one or more factors are not working. Click here for more information. 
FIDO key
 An optional method of using a device called a security key to authenticate. Click here for more information.


First, authenticate with your password by selecting the icon, and type in your password.


If MFA is enforced on this device, you will be prompted for another factor. Select another sign-in option, such as your ID badge by selecting the  icon.


When you see the prompt, hold your badge to the card reader for about 1 second. 


If both factors are successful, you will be logged in and brought to your desktop. If one or more factors are unsuccessful, please try using the factor again, or using another factor. If problems persist, please read our Account Recovery article.

I cannot login!

If you are having issues logging in, please see our Account Recovery article. In cases of emergency, please contact IT directly. If IT is unavailable, please contact your supervisor. 


First Login Prompts for Password Twice

Sometimes when you log into a device for the first time, it may ask for your password twice. This is an unintended side effect of our system, but should only affect the first login. If this issue happens multiple times for the same user on the same device, please submit a ticket. 


Green Check Mark

Sometimes, you may see green check marks on authentication options, like seen here


This means that the selected factor has already been authenticated. You should select another factor to complete the authentication process.
