What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is the process of using multiple factors to log into devices. In simple terms, you must use more than just a password to sign into computers. Each of these factors fall into one of three categories, something you know (password), something you have (ID badge), and something you are (fingerprint). The use of MFA increases security by making it increasingly difficult for an attacker to gain access to your account, and also provides more convenient ways of authentication.
What do I have to do?
Using MFA is broken down into three simple steps:
- Enrollment (first time setup)
- Enrollment is normally performed with the help of IT, but in some cases is done by the end user. To learn how to enroll in MFA, if self enrollment is allowed, click here!
- Using MFA (normal operation)
- To learn how to use your MFA credentials, read our Using MFA article.
