How does the repair process work?

The repair process is simple. Ultimately, our goal is to make sure you always have a working device. The process goes like this:

  1. Your issue is reported to IT
  2. An IT employee will either visit you in class, or send you an e-Hallpass to visit the IT office
  3. The employee will attempt to verify or reproduce the issue you reported
  4. If needed, the employee will keep your device for further troubleshooting or repairs.
  5. You will be given a loaner Chromebook
  6. IT will repair your device, determine any fees for repairs (explained below)
  7. IT will visit you in class, or send you an e-Hallpass, to pick up your device
  8. Fees do not need to be paid in order to receive your Chromebook
  9. IT does not accept payments. Information for making payments can be found below.

When do I have to pay for Chromebook repairs?

An employee from the IT department will evaluate your device to determine the root causes of any technical issues. After this evaluation, there are two scenarios:

  1. Device is defective: If there is no obvious signs of damage or misuse, and there is a technical issue, the device is determined to be defective. This means the student will not be responsible for repair costs.
    1. Examples: Charger stops working with no damage (no cut wires, severe crimping, or bent connectors); Device fails to turn on with no signs of liquid damage; Screen stops working with no evidence of damage
  2. Device is damaged: If the device is not working with clear signs in physical damage, misuse, or negligence, the student is responsible for repair costs.
    1. Examples: Lost Chromebook or charger; screen is damaged; liquid damage; bent or cut charger.

* Costs of parts may change without notice. Blue Hills only charges the cost of the hardware needed for repairs. We do not charge for labor.

The cost of new Chromebooks is calculated once a year when Blue Hills makes a bulk purchase of devices. This helps ensure the lowest cost for students if they need a replacement. The cost of replacement devices will depreciate 25% each year the device is in service. Additionally, if the software license assigned to the device cannot be transferred (due to Google policies), students will be responsible for the cost of the new license as well.

* If the replacement device is the same exact model, the license is transferrable and the fee is waived. IT will always attempt to replace devices with the same exact model, but this is not always possible depending on which devices are in stock.

How do I pay for Chromebook fees?

All student fees are paid online through MySchoolBucks. You can log in or sign up for MySchoolBucks at this link: https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ver2/getmain.action

If you are unfamiliar with using MySchoolBucks, the process is simple.

  1. Login or create an account at: https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ver2/getmain.action
  2. After logging in, select Get Started to select a District
  3. At the Add District window, select Massachusetts for the State and Blue Hills Regional Technical School for the District
  4. Next you should be prompted to Add a Student that should ask for some identifying information.
  5. After the student is added, look through any Invoices available for that student.
